The Timiskaming Drug and Alcohol Strategy (TDAS) Steering Committee has submitted a letter to the Premier of Ontario advocating for the development of a comprehensive Ontario Alcohol Strategy. This initiative is proposed as a responsible investment in response to recent policy changes, emphasizing the urgent need to address the current landscape of alcohol use, particularly in Northern Ontario, where social challenges are significantly more pronounced.
A provincial alcohol strategy would enable the implementation of evidence-based policies, coordinated responses, effective monitoring and reporting, and measures for education, awareness, and prevention. As a coalition of over 20 local organizations, TDAS is committed to actively monitoring, reporting, and championing policies and practices that reduce alcohol and substance-related harms across the district.
